The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
